FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Athens Texas January 4, 2010

Local/Politics

As of 8:54 am on Thursday December 31,2009, the Secretary of State’s office in Austin received the Declaration of Intent from Melissa Pehle-Hill in her bid for the office of Texas State Representative District 4. Mrs. Hill’s decision to run as an Independent Candidate is detailed below.

Mrs. Hill quotes: I have heard many people say that the Republican Party has left them behind and that its obvious move toward the center is not what they want. There are many Democrats feeling the same way about the Democratic Party and its move toward socialism with the present agenda of those in Washington. Even some elected officials in Texas have expressed this as a problem after the last election—in the form of over 20 members of the Democratic Party presently in office who said their values hadn’t changed but the Democratic Party had left them behind so they were flipping over to the Republican Party. The Republican Party welcomed them with open arms.

The problem I have with that is that these two parties are supposed to represent two totally different points of view so how could the party who is supposed to represent the conservative point of view openly welcome people who are liberal by their own words. This makes no more sense to me than the fact that the Republican Party has been working toward bigger government and more intrusion into the lives of Americans over the last several years which is in opposition to the Platform they claim to run on.

I, like many Americans, still believe in the Constitution, small government, and people working to feed their families rather than the constantly expanding monster that has become our government. I also believe that we are a Judeo Christian nation founded on the word of God and that through that foundation we are still the greatest nation on Earth. I believe that George Washington was right that a two party system would be the downfall of this great nation. The very fact that many can’t tell the difference in the parties is further proof of the inherent necessity to expand the playing field of politics in order to find true representation for the people.

Toward that end, and based on the fact that the Republican Party has left we the people behind, I am running as a Constitutional Conservative on the Independent ticket in the race for Texas State Representative District 4 during the General Election in November. I have been a Republican all of my life and it saddens me that the Republican Party has lost the core values of the late Ronald Reagan thus forcing me to run as an Independent Candidate. I hope everyone will look beyond party labels to find who best represents their interests and remember voting is as much a duty as it is a privilege so please vote in November to save this state and this country from socialism.

May God bless you, this great nation, and Texas. May you have a wonderful New Year.

Melissa Pehle-Hill responds to the switch in Party from several elected officials here in Texas.

From the desk of Melissa Pehle-Hill

In hearing that many elected officials are switching over from the Democrat Party to the Republican Party I have mixed feelings though most of those feelings are not of joy or elation but rather of disgust and aggravation.
Let me explain. Yes, I am happy that they are jumping ship from the Democrats who are now being led toward socialism at a pace that is shocking to the American people. But why did it take them so long to decide that? Did they not realize the Democrats had become socialists until after the last election and the Republicans took the two seats from Democrats?
Then there is the statement I read by one of them saying that their values hadn’t changed but the Democratic Party had changed so they were jumping over the aisle to become part of the Republican Party. Does that not scream wrong to you? It certainly does me and here’s why.
Republicans are conservatives and Democrats are liberals so that in and of itself should say that this is not good for the people as it further waters down the party which is supposed to stand for conservative values like God, Family, and Country. Conservatives believe that the Constitution is the law of the land and not to be interpreted to allow God to be removed or gays to marry as the liberals do.
Do you see the problem here? Then the fact that there are those in the Republican Party who think this is great. I find this scary to say the least. Oh sure, it gave the Republicans a bigger majority here in Texas, technically. But are they really? These people said themselves that their values didn’t change so how does that help the Republicans by anything other than having more R’s listed after people’s names than they did before they flipped? They are still going to vote their liberal beliefs and values, not the conservative ones Republicans are supposed to be protecting and fighting for. And how do we actually know that the ones who flipped don’t really stand with Obama and his ilk? Because they jumped ship? Are you kidding me? They did it right after other Democrats lost. They didn’t do it when Obama came up with the Cap and Trade Bill (that will hurt Texas terribly if it passes), or when they came up with Obamacare, or when the government bought its first auto manufacturer, or even when the noise from the Tea Parties was fresh in our ears. But they did when they saw that people voted against others bearing the same brand—and they obviously want to remain in office—so they jumped for the lifesaver.
Should the Republican Party welcome them with open arms? No and they said why themselves—their values haven’t changed—they are still Democrats, still liberals, and the people who vote for Republicans ARE NOT. And that is what the Party Elite of the Republican Party seems to have forgotten or are simply choosing to ignore.
Maybe it is because the Silent Majority has been silent so long that the Party Elite don’t feel they merit consideration. That is where I feel they are wrong and why I feel that the time has come when the people can and will take their country back. However, we need to all remember, voters and elected officials alike, this is not a football game that never ends where the party winning an election should be our greatest concern. The election in 2010 is not about which party is in power when the dust settles—it is about putting the country back in the hands of the people and that can only be done by putting the right people in each seat not by blindly supporting someone because of what letter follows their name.

I am extremely honored to endorse Melissa Pehle-Hill as the next State Representative in Texas District 4. Melissa possesses a mild mannered, yet very focused approach to problem solving that is ideal for this position. I have known her for several years, and her love of this nation and devotion to the State of Texas is unequalled. Melissa’s conservative philosophy of limited government, lower taxes, states rights, domestic energy development, family values and Second Amendment rights place her head-and-shoulders above other contenders.

The Great State of Texas was made great by individuals such as Melissa, and I urge fellow Texans to maintain that game plan. I am in great hope that all will go to the polls and cast their vote. I also have great faith that the vote will be for Melissa Pehle-Hill.

The death of those soldiers at Fort Hood today is heavy on my heart. This is a tragedy that brings with it so much sadness and confusion. I will hold the families of those who died in my prayers and in my heart. I cannot imagine the pain they are feeling or the resounding shock as they thought their family members were safe–and they should have been.
How this happened needs to be seriously looked into and proper action should quickly follow.

I will be talking about this on the Make-A-Statement Radio Show this evening at 10:30. Click here to listen.

“I have worked closely with Melissa at Restore Our American Republic (ROAR) and also on BolgTalkRadio programming. Melissa is a team player, highly intelligent, and well organized. She is particularly well suited to serving the people of the 4th District of Texas in the Legislature. Melissa is well versed on the constitution, free market economics, and has been very involved in conservative Republican politics for many years. She has helped organize Tea Parties and is in demand as a frequent speaker in various GOP organizations. Melissa is also dedicate wife and mother of eight children, two of whom she is currently home schooling. I have no hesitation in recommending Melissa P. Hill for anything she wants to do because her strong values, skillful organization, and great work ethic will assure her success.” November 2, 2009

Dean Allen, Member, Board of Directors, American Foundation for Counter-Terrorism Policy and Research, Candidate for Adjacent General in South Carolina.
